About Us
Our History
St. Theresa’s Day Care Centre has been a beacon of care and compassion since its opening in 1979 by the Carmelite Missionary Sisters of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus. Rooted in the spirit of service, the Centre has faithfully supported families and nurtured children for over four decades. From its inception until 2011, the Centre was lovingly supervised by Sister MaryJoan Micallef, whose dedication laid the foundation for our nurturing environment. In 2011, the leadership was passed on to Sister Yollanda Galleta, who continued to uphold our values and guide the Centre with the same devotion until 2023.
Throughout the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, St. Theresa’s Day Care Centre remained open, providing a safe, stable, and supportive space for children and their families. Our unwavering commitment during this time exemplified our mission: to serve with love, faith, and dedication. In September 2023, we welcomed our new Supervisor, Sister Suzana Tairo, whose fresh vision and compassionate leadership have brought renewed energy to our Centre. Under her guidance, we successfully applied for and implemented the CEWELLC Program, which has had a meaningful and positive impact on the families we serve.
During the summer of 2024, important renovations were completed, further enhancing the learning environment for our children. Sister Suzana continues to look ahead with enthusiasm, as she leads the Centre toward new and exciting projects that will benefit our community for years to come.

Program Statement
We believe every child is capable, curious and rich in potential. Our programs are play based, responsive to children’s interests, and support social, emotional, spiritual, physical, cognitive and communication, language and literacy development. We engage families as active partners in learning, and we ensure that safety, health, nutrition, and overall well-being form the foundation of everything we do.
Vision
Rooted in our Catholic heritage and enriched by the diversity of our families, we strive to create an environment where children grow socially, emotionally, spiritually, cognitively, and creatively through meaningful relationships and play-based learning. We strive to be a model of inclusive excellence, one that reflects the diversity, strengths, and potential of every child.

Philosophy
We believe children learn best through hands-on experiences and play; through consistent, nurturing relationships; through environments that respect choice and exploration; and through close collaboration with families. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every child feels seen, valued, and supported—regardless of their background, abilities, or needs. By encouraging independence, curiosity, self-regulation, and mutual respect, we help each child thrive in a setting that celebrates diversity and fosters a strong sense of belonging.
